World Vision Water Well Project
Clean Water a Right, Not a Luxury Did you know that worldwide, every fifteen seconds, a child dies from preventable, water-related disease? Did you know that most of these young children are younger than 5 or that a vast majority (nearly 80%) are younger than 2? These startling facts are provided by World Vision and point to the need for avenues to provide safe water to inhabitants in developing countries like the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The following information explains the work that is needed in the DRC to provide residents with clean water and the role Social Ministry International will play. Please take the time to read this information and pray for the success required to work with ministries in other lands.
World Vision Water Resource Project World Vision; a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families and their communities worldwide, also believes that clean water is a right and not a luxury. As a result, it has developed the Kolwezi Water and Sanitation Project. The goal of this project is to work alongside the community to build water resources that are sustainable. The Kolwezi Water and Sanitation project began in October 2006 and continues through September 2009 with three main objectives: increase access to sustainable, safe water and sanitation; reduce the instances of water bourne diseases especially among children; and ensure sustainable management of water quality and quantity. Projects such as this fit within the mission of the Social Ministry International which is: To reach out across continents to our sisters and brothers through spirituality, friendship and service and to serve and use goodwill, mobilize resources and share our blessings to promote the dignity oh human life throughout the global community.
A Partnership Formed The St. Thomas More Social Ministry International has entered into a working relationship with World Vision to help the people of Kolwezi in the Democratic Repubic of the Congo. Through past fundraising efforts monies were collected that allow us to send a $10,800.00 donation to World Vision. This money will be used to fund the drilling of water wells in Kolwezi which will provide access to sustainable and safe water in this rural community. Social Ministry International will maintain an ongoing relationship with World Vision and Kolwezi through continuous updates and efforts to further the education and well being of the residents. Our participation in this international ministry clearly exemplifies the ways that the Lord is using the members of St. Thomas More to further the work in His vineyard.
