Administration
The Administration
Commission assists the pastor with temporal realities of the
parish: finances, buildings and property, organization and
administrative procedures and policies. This group of
parishioners brings expertise in these areas to the decision
making process and to long term planning for the material
and financial stability of the parish. They assist in
developing budgets, approving major advising on temporal
matters affecting the parish. The Administrative Commission
usually meets quarterly.
Boy Scouts
This is a national
youth organization for boys ages 11-18. The program is
designed to teach young men self-reliance, leadership and
citizenship. Scouts are introduced to many different
activities and skills, especially the outdoor skills
including camping, backpacking and conservation. The troop
also undertakes community service projects during the year.
Check out the
troop.
Couples
Club
This is a community
building organization for adult couples of all ages.
Meetings are the second Thursday of each month to plan
monthly outings. The calendar includes social events as well
as outreach projects.
Men's
Club
If you're like most
men, you'll agree that life isn't always easy. The good news
is you don't have to struggle alone. Thanks to the STM Men's
Club you can meet other men from the parish and get together
to share faith, fellowship and service activities. We
conduct a monthly food drive for Variety Day Home, as well
as an annual pancake breakfast and men's retreat. We have a
ball with our yearly golf tournament. Thanks to our
activities, we also have funds available to help other
ministries." At 7:00 p.m. on the first Monday of each
month, the Men's Club meets in the Community Center. Besides
planning upcoming events, it's a wonderful way to meet other
men from the parish to share life's experiences, compare
notes and encourage one another. If you or someone you know
is 18 years or older and a member in good standing of our
parish, check out the Men's Club.
Parents
For Life
Parents For Life is
a ministry for adults, typically parents of teens in the
LIFE TEEN program. It's mission is to lead adults and their
families closer to Christ. The ministry, however, is not
restricted to LIFE TEEN parents. Parents For Life is an
informal organization of adults who support the LIFE TEEN
program, spiritually and through hospitality.
Parish
Pastoral Council
As the parish has
grown in recent years, the shape of the Pastoral Council of
the parish has changed as well. This group shares in the
leadership responsibility of the parish along with the
Pastor and the Pastoral Staff and so it has been necessary
to expand the Council to incorporate more voices. Six
parishioners are elected by the parish at large for
three-year terms and another six persons are chosen by the
various organizations and ministries that are grouped
together under the umbrella of "Commissions"
(Administration, Adult Faith Formation, Community Building,
Outreach, Worship, Youth Faith Formation) and each
Commission chooses one representative to the council. These
twelve people then help to set the direction and vision for
the parish, bring representative voice to the decision
making and oversee the coordination for parish activities
and programs so that we stay faithful to our vision and
mission as a Catholic Community and the Council with the
Pastoral Staff try to model that for the parish. The Council
meets monthly.
Senior
Bingo
This group meets
every second Thursday of each month from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.,
rain or snow. There is a break at 1:30 p.m. with homemade
desserts, tea and coffee. Every year there is two
potluck luncheons, spring and Christmas. This is a very
social and friendly group and everyone is invited. Bring a
friend!! There is a $1.00 donation and all the money goes to
the church. This is not a fundraiser group.
Softball
Looking for a group
which gives you the opportunity for exercise, fresh air and
guarantees you'll have a "ball"? Then join the STM adult
softball team. Right now St. Thomas more has three teams
playing at Arroyo Grande complex throughout the week: two
co-eds and one men's team. Each team plays a weekly double
header. It's a great chance to meet fellow parishioners who
enjoy playing recreational softball. And the emphasis is on
"recreational." Anyone over the age of 18 can play. There
are only allowed 20 players per team, so sometimes there is
a waiting list. A structured activity allows the team to
bond as well as helping our parish: players are responsible
for serving donuts after the 10:00 Mass once each month.
Women's Guild
The purpose of the
Women's Guild is twofold; to serve the parish and to act as
a social organization. Fundraising events such as the
Christmas Boutique, Rummage Sale, a Wine & Cheese Tasting
Social, and an annual Valentine Dinner Dance are held. The
Guild meets each month. Babysitting is provided at the
meetings.
