CORE TEAM
WHAT A CORE MEMBER IS Everyone has a baptismal call to serve. A Core Member is an adult who is responding to his or her baptismal call to serve in youth ministry. Life Teen is a program where you can be in a healthy, ministerial relationship with young people. The goal of the role is to lead teens to Christ. This calling is to evangelize young adults at an age when they need it the most: during their teen years. You have both an opportunity and an invitation to reach teens during this critical, life-defining time. As a Core Member, you will be an important role model in teenagers' lives. Your approach to ministry should be rooted in service, commitment and dedication to the Church and the teenagers you serve.
WHAT A CORE MEMBER IS NOT Life Teen should not just be a social outlet for you. Nor should it be used as a way for you to build self-esteem. Additionally, your role as a Core Member should not be as a tool to establish or deepen your own spirituality. Although you will develop good friendships and experience rewards as a Core Member, you must remain socially and emotionally balanced.
WHO CAN BE A CORE MEMBER There is a misconception that only young adults can be effective Core members. This is not the case at all. The most healthy Core Teams have a range of ages, backgrounds, and personalities. Any person called by God to serve in this capacity can be an instrument to lead teens closer to Christ. All that is needed is a faithful heart and a willing spirit to apply. There is a six-step application process: One on One Meeting with one or both of the LT Directors, A Core Application, A Board of Review with Veteran Core Members, Fingerprinting Process, A Protecting God's Children Workshop and Formal Core Training. Core Members are one of the most vital parts of the Life Teen Program. There are three main roles for every Core Member---Core as Child of God, Core as Catechist, and Core as Relational Minister.
