I Have Suffered A Loss...

After you have lost someone you love, often you find yourself in a state of shock and disbelief. We have provided  for your use a practical checklist of suggestions to make the days and months ahead of a little smoother. This is a down to reality, nuts and bolts list of things that you may never have thought of, but may want to tend to.

Grief is a long, difficult, yet, human process that affects everybody at various times in their lives.  If you find yourself on this journey now, you know how difficult it is mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically.  You find yourself on a journey you did not ask to be on…nor would ever choose.  You are trying to regain balance in your life, facing hard work with little energy.  This is a time to rely upon those around you to help you regain your balance, strength and hope.

When you are ready, know that there are resources to walk with you through your healing time.  Grief needs to be embraced, not delayed or denied.  Doing so sets up delayed grief that often comes out in unhealthy ways. Avoiding grief only postpones recovery.  The expression of grief is essential for good emotional and physical health. To that end, our Bereavement Ministry offers to you sources that will help you journey this difficult road.

Often grievers are comforted by a note of encouragement each day. Please visit www.griefshare.org and sign up for their daily email messages of inspiration and encouragement. There is no cost for this service. You will find many thoughts and words that will help you make it through each difficult day.

St. Thomas More offers a Bereavement Group that meets on Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in Room #8 of our Community Center. We hold a 13-week session in the Spring and Fall of each year.

Additionally, we maintain an Area Resource Guide for other support groups in the Las Vegas/Henderson area that are known to us.

The Bereavement Ministry at St. Thomas More plans and hosts a Memorial Mass each November to honor and remember those that have passed during the past year. Announcements regarding dates and times will be published in the church bulletin beginning in October.
