For those suffering a loss…
The initial loss of a loved one creates many emotions and
challenges to face in the days ahead. We offer to you a
checklist of some practical tips to know to help this
process run as smoothly as it can at this difficult time.
Practical checklist following the
death of a loved one
Grief is a long, difficult, yet, human process that
affects everybody at various times in their lives. If you
find yourself on this journey now, you know how difficult it
is mentally, spiritually, emotionally and physically. You
find yourself on a journey you did not ask to be on…nor
would ever choose. You are trying to regain balance in your
life, facing hard work with little energy. This is a time
to rely upon those around you to help you regain your
balance, strength and hope.
When you are ready, know that there are
resources to walk with you through your healing time. Grief
needs to be embraced, not delayed or denied. Doing so sets
up delayed grief that often comes out in unhealthy ways.
Avoiding grief only postpones recovery. The expression of
grief is essential for good emotional and physical health.
To that end, our Bereavement Ministry offers to
you sources that will help you journey this difficult road.
To begin the journey of healing...
For those
journeying with others along the road of loss…
You have expressed your sympathy to your friend, or loved
one, on their loss. “I’m sorry” seems to not be enough…what
do you do now?
In working with the
bereaved, many describe their interaction with friends as
feeling like “there is an elephant in the room”. Everyone
knows it’s there, but they avoid the subject. Where from
here…how do you help?
“How to Help”
is offered to you as some practical ways to
help your friend or loved one along the journey of healing.
Stay involved with their lives. You can make a difference.
