“Were not our hearts burning
within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the scriptures to
us?”
These words from Luke’s gospel open the United States Catholic
Bishops Pastoral Plan for Adult Faith Formation in the United States
called, Our Hearts Were Burning
Within Us. This document challenges parishes and dioceses to place
adult faith formation at the forefront of catechetical planning.
“We are convinced that effective adult faith formation will make
our efforts in all [educational] initiatives more fruitful.” {p 5, OHB}
because “An adult community whose faith is well-formed and lively
will more effectively pass that faith
In
addition to our specialized programs for sacrament preparation, St Thomas
More provides opportunities for general adult faith formation on a weekly
basis. Series
are offered in liturgy, scripture, morality, social justice, sacraments,
catechetic, spirituality, ministry, and church documents as well as staff
development.
Flexible scheduling (both morning and evening sessions) enables our
programs to average 80 participants per session!
Our
goal is to empower adults to know and live the message of
Jesus.
