We
are most happy to baptize your child providing:
A. At least one parent is an active Catholic
who is a registered parish member, attending mass weekly here at St. Thomas More for at least three
months. If you have moved from another parish and can get a
letter from them stating that you were an active member there,
the three months can be waived.
B. Parents are required to attend a Baptism
preparation class, which is offered the first Wednesday of every
month at 7:00 p.m. in the Church. Our baptism preparation
program is an interactive class for Catholic Christian parents.
It is best if you are able to leave your children with a
babysitter. This will enable you to give your full attention to
the material presented and get the most benefit from the class.
This is another way to build community among our young families.
Childcare is provided to those who need it. Please contact
Pam Trendell at 361-3022
prior to the class so that we have enough sitters on staff for
that night. There is no need to pre-register for the class.
There will be a sign-in sheet when you enter the Church.
C. At least one Catholic Godparent must submit
signed documentation, stating that he/she is practicing Catholic
in good standing. This means the prospective Godparent is
registered in a Catholic Parish, attending Mass regularly, and
has received the Sacrament of Confirmation. This document will
be given to the parents at the baptism preparation class, and
must be completed and returned to the St. Thomas More Parish
office at least two weeks before the day of the baptism.
Godparents are not required to attend the baptism preparation
class; however, they are more that welcome to come.
To allow
time for the above requirements to be met, we suggest parents
contact our office at least three months before the date of
baptism. Expectant parents are encouraged to begin this
preparation during their pregnancy.
BAPTISMS
WILL NOT BE SCHEDULED UNTIL ALL OF THE REQUIREMENTS HAVE BEEN
FULFILLED. THEY ARE SCHEDULED BY CONTACTING
PAM TRENDELL AT 361-3022. We
normally do baptisms every Sunday after the Noon Mass and the
first and third Saturday of the month at 10:30 a.m.
We look
forward to working with you in preparation for the celebration
of this important Sacrament of initiation in the Church...the
beginning of your child's life journey of faith.
Families
who are new to the parish (registered in the last six months)
are encouraged to attend one of our Newcomer Brunches in order
to learn more about what our parish can do for you and how you
can become more involved with us. You will be notified by the
offices as to the next date. It will begin with a ritual of
blessing at the 10:00 a.m. Mass followed by brunch in the
Community Center. Please call the parish office to R.S.V.P.
Please
contact Pam Trendell, Baptism Coordinator, at 361-3022 or email
at
stmpt97@aol.com if you require
further information.
